AI and Dyslexia: Productivity Boosters or Creativity Killer?

What happens to the balance between productivity and creativity when dyslexic thinking meets AI?

On one hand, AI takes the pressure off the higher-effort parts of our work, the sequencing, ordering, structuring and all the detail that can slow the day down. That lift in productivity can feel like a relief. But it also makes me pause and ask: am I using it well, or am I doubling down on my old masking habit of over-preparing?

There’s another side to this too. What happens to our dyslexic creativity when so much of the effort load is lifted? Does it open up more space for big-picture thinking, or does it risk dulling the spark that comes from working things out in our own way?

This is the conversation I’m interested in right now. How do we use AI in a way that genuinely amplifies dyslexic thinking? And what does it look like when dyslexic creativity is supported by AI?

If you’re in Southland and want to explore the tension between productivity and creativity, and what it means for dyslexic thinkers at work, I’m on a panel with the Southland Chamber of Commerce. Come join the discussion!

When: Tuesday 25 November 2025
